Is a Manicure Pedicure Really Necessary?
Sometimes in the beauty industry services or
procedures seem to be fashioned for no apparent reason other than to sell something different.
Nail salons have sold manicure pedicure services as their basis since
their inception. The services have expanded in both sophistication and exoticness to the point
where the original nail care service is no longer recognizable.
What started out as actual care and maintenance
of the feet and hands has now evolved into something completely different. The different
variations of foot and hand care are endless. Some nail salons still offer the basic manicure.
A basic manicure is just clipping, filing and shaping, trimming cuticles and a coat of polish.
This has been expanded to artificial nails such as acrylic nails, gel nails, nail art, hand
soaking, and hand massage and more! And the same thing goes for pedicures. You can have nail
art, a foot massage, reflexology, special lotions, foot soaking etc. The point is you are not
just stuck with the simple manicure pedicure routines that we have grown
Now back to the point of this article. Is a
manicure or a pedicure really necessary? Well that depends on you. I believe that a pedicure
is part of a meticulous foot care regimen and should be accomplished regularly. If not by you
then by a professional who specializes in pedicures and can recommend what you need. If you
think about it, your feet are perhaps your most important appendages. If you’ve every had a
foot problem then you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, try walking around
with a marble in your shoe and then get back to me. Being ambulatory and pain free in the
process is priceless and you should do everything in your power to facilitate that freedom.
Periodic pedicures are a simple way to ensure good foot health.
As far as the manicure is concerned I don’t
think it is as important as a pedicure but it is important nonetheless. Bear with me here for
a minute. Trimming you nails is part of a manicure. So is trimming your cuticles, applying
lotion, and administering cuticle oil. Have you ever had a split cuticle? It is really
painful and creates quite a bit of discomfort. Having you cuticles trimmed and oiled regularly
will prevent this from happening. As to trimming your nails; do you bite them or tear them
off? I’m sure you have at one point or another and the results weren’t always what you’d hoped
for. You bite down too low or tear them off crooked and you expose the under part of your
fingernail. Talk about painful! So as you can see the manicure process in and of itself is
important for your pain and comfort level as well as your ability to effectively use your
So the answer to the question of whether or not
the manicure pedicure procedures are necessary, I have to say yes. Whether or not you
actually pay somebody to do this for you is a decision that you’ll have to make for yourself.
If you don’t want to cut yourself or don’t have a steady hand with the polish I think you
should pay someone. That is only if of course you care how your manicure pedicure turns out.
